FORZA FD30/FD60 Single leaf Q-MARK DOORSET INSTALLATION GUIDE

Supporting Construction

The supporting construction may be timber or steel stud plasterboard partition, metal stud demountable partition or masonry wall, but shall be of a type that has been tested or assessed to provide in excess of 30/60 minutes fire resistance, at the required size, when incorporating Forza FD30/FD60 Q-Mark Doorsets. If fitted into timber/steel stud or metal stud demountable partitions, the method of forming the door assembly aperture must be as tested by the partition supplier/manufacturer.

Thresholds

The threshold under the door leaf must be of non-combustible materials or a minimum 15mm thick hardwood (640Kg/m3).

Timber Frame Installation & Gap Tolerance

The frames must be fixed back to the supporting construction with steel fixings at centres not exceeding 600mm on the vertical edges (maximum 150mm from the top and bottom), and a minimum of one fitted centrally across the width of the frame head. Screws shall be minimum 100mm length (type appropriate for the structural opening substrate) and penetrate the supporting construction by at least 40mm. Suitably thick packers depending on frame to supporting construction gap shall be used at all fixing positions.

The gap between the frame and the supporting construction shall be between 5mm and 10mm (max) (enabling mastic and mineral wool to be positioned as per DRW10). Supplied architraves (45mm x 15mm) to be mechanically fixed set 10mm inside from inner frame edge (hinge side) (DRW10). Alternate options for gap between frame to supporting construction are detailed in DRW12. Guidance for various methods of sealing the frame to structural opening is also given in BS 8214:2016 “Timber based fire door assemblies. Code of Practice which may be referred to where appropriate.

The intumescent mastic to be an approved linear gap joint seal successfully tested for doorset installation in accordance with BS476-20 or BS EN 1366-4 for the required period of fire resistance.

The standard doorset design has the leaf fully flush within the timber frame allowing for an onsite proud alignment tolerance no greater than 1mm.

Transomed overpanels shall be secured into the timber frame using steel screws fixed through the rear of the frame members, passing at least 30mm into the centre line of the overpanel thickness. (Screws must not be fixed through the overpanel into the stops, or vice versa). Screws must be no more than 100mm from each corner of the overpanel and at maximum 250mm centres, with a minimum of 2no. screws per overpanel edge. The gap between overpanel and frame (incorporating frame intumescent) should not exceed 2mm (DRW9).

The gap between the door leaf and the timber frame at verticals and head to be a minimum 2mm and a maximum 4mm. Threshold gap under the bottom edge of door to top of finished floor level (FFL) to be nominally 6mm+/-3 mm for fire performance.

If smoke control is also required, the gap to be 3mm unless automatic drop seal fitted to base of leaf and door stop smoke seals fitted to frame head and legs.

The overall frame depth may be increased either in solid form or with the use of extension linings where the joint/biscuit between the main frame and extension does not intrude into the plane of the door thickness.

Site Box Ironmongery and Installation Instructions

Hinge intumescent pads to be positioned into the frame hinge recess and all screws firmly installed.

Specified face fixed door closer: using the template provided the specified closer to be positioned as per DRW11 and installed and adjusted as per the manufacturer’s instructions. For concealed closers the frame component to be fitted as per the manufacturers instructions and adjusted accordingly.
